ABOUT MARKFIELD EQUESTRIAN

Leicestershire Riding SchoolMarkfield Equestrian Centre has been established since 1981, and is owned by Mr and Mrs Duffield. It has developed substantially to its present size of

  • a large indoor school (60 x 30m),
  • smaller indoor school (20 x 40m)
  • outdoor school (60 x 30m)
  • outdoor horse walker
  • and livery stabling for 40 horses and ponies.

We currently have around 38 well schooled HORSES and PONIES that we use in the riding school.

We offer lessons to all ages from 4 years upwards, and offer private, semi private and group lessons for all standards. Our group lessons are graded from level 1 (beginners) to level 4 (advanced). We also offer lessons for career, competition and business training.

We run a BSJA show season from October to March. (Please see show schedule for details)

During the summer holidays we run a wide range of activities for children, including pony care days, weeks and camping activities.

Markfield Equestrian Centre is a BHS approved Riding School, with weekly training sessions and jumping and games days.


Owners

Pam and John Duffield

Mr and Mrs. Duffield started Markfield Equestrian Centre in 1982. Mr Duffield oversees the whole business, while Mrs. Duffield runs the show office.


Yard manager

Paul Crane

Paul is currently the yard manager and has been working at MEC since October 1997. Paul began riding at the age of seven; he had regular riding lessons and began working with horses after leaving school in 1995. Paul works full time currently teaching; four late nights, private lessons and group lessons on Saturdays. Paul also looks after our summer school groups and summer activities. He is popular with teenage riders and is the longest serving instructor at Markfield Equestrian Centre.


Instructors

Faye Kiddell BHSAI instructor

We are so pleased to have Faye with on the MEC team!  Faye teaches private lessons on a Thursday night and group lessons all day Saturday. She is a freelance instructor who has her own horses and competes locally.

Caroline McWilliam BHSAI instructor

Caroline teaches on a Wednesday night and is also a freelance instructor.
"I started my BHS Training part time in 2006 and qualified in 2009. Previously I had many years working, riding and handling horses. After qualifying I spent time at many different yards, gaining more experience as a freelance groom as well as building my clientele for teaching and riding for others. I now teach and ride the majority of the time alongside freelance grooming, helping people buy and sell horses and ponies, training for higher qualifications and eventing my horse'King Arthur'. I teach a wide range of adults and children of all abilities. I'm a light weight rider so able to school and train small ponies."
Qualifications - BHSAI, EQL Level 2 Certificate in Coaching, EQL Level 3 Assistant Instructor's Certificate, EQL Level 4 Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care and Management.

Graham Savory BHSII S.M.

Graham has been involved with MEC for over 25 years in different ways. Graham has competed locally since childhood including show jumping, dressage and team chasing ! Now he runs private lessons for clients with their own horses and our level 3 and 4 riders on a Thursday evening. Graham also runs Show Jumping clinics throughout the holidays. Julie Rowbottom

Simon Joel

Mr Simon Joel began working at MEC in spring 2011 having previously leant to ride here as a child. Simon works on the yard during the week and currently teaches private lessons on Friday evenings.


Yard Staff

Ruth Savory

Ruth has been part of Markfield Equestrian Centre since it began, as it was due to her own love of horses that her parents, Mr and Mrs Duffield, began the business. Ruth works on the yard, manages the liveries at M.E.C., and deals with veterinary and farrier appointments.

Chris Joel

Have you got a problem? Do you need help? Then just give Chris a shout! He is very skilful in fixing things and will be keen to help anyone. Chris is well organised but is mostly known for his ability to handle and drive tractors.

Emily Pallett

Emily is currently completing her NVQ level 1 in Horse Care with us. She works alongside the yard team helping clients and horses as well as developing her own skills in both horse care and riding.

Stash Sawicki

Stash works Monday-Friday looking after all the horses on the Yard.
"I started riding in Poland when I was in my early forties, my riding experience is mainly hacking our. I lived in at my small holding in Poland for three years where I looked after 4 hourses. When I returned to the UK I brought my 6 year old horse with me. I am currently schooling him. He's a lovely lad, bold and cheeky.. he's coming along nicely. I'm looking orward to working with everyone at the centre."
