PONY LESSONS

VIEW OUR PONIES View our Ponies

Our pony lessons are divided into levels between 1 and 4. We feel this makes it easier for parents to see progression and to see the targets for their children. Please remember all children are individual and learn at different rates, our emphasis is always on learning and having fun!

LEVEL 1

This is the first level children will start at.

  • They will be taught how to stop and start the pony
  • They will ride basic turns, circles and steering, usually with a leader.
  • They will be taught sitting and rising trot.
  • Depending on the riders age they may begin to canter with a leader.

At this level we are helping children be more confident around ponies.

LEVEL 2

On this level children will still usually be riding as a ride, but without a leader.

  • They will continue to ride turns, circles and serpentines.
  • They will be learning to canter, and riding canter exercises to improve their confidence.
  • Children will do some riding without stirrups to help their position.
  • Riders will do some pole work and small jumps and jumping position work.

LEVEL 3

At this level riders will be beginning some of our more challenging ponies.

  • They will be doing some ride work, but also beginning to ride more independently in open order.
  • They will ride circles and turns on their own, and canter on their own, in small groups or as a ride.
  • They will continue to ride without stirrups in walk and trot.
  • They will continue to jump small jumps, including doubles and basic courses.

LEVEL 4

At this level riders should be rotating on the harder ponies.

  • All of the lesson should be in open order with the emphasis on riding independently.
  • Riders will ride shallow and half loops and ride basic lateral work (leg yield)
  • Riders will continue to ride without stirrups, could include canter.
  • They will jump more complicated exercises including grids and bounces and longer courses including jump offs.
